The Ghost Car

Hi ! Here's a project I worked on for university. The assignment was to create a 3D environnement of any kind with anything. The main focus of the project was the lighting, the layout and the compositon. I ended up making this piece inspired by the song "Pacific Coast Highway" from Kavinsky

I used Unreal for the integration, shading, lighting and for the final render. It turned out to be a whole lot of fun and I learned a lot in the process! It's my second project ever in Unreal Engine and I am very satisfied with the result. I'm liking Unreal more and more !

(Some of the assets used were bought or downloaded off the web with due to time constraints. These assets include: the model of the car, the grass model and texture, the model and textures for the electric poles, and the model for the bus stop. Everything else was done by me.)

I had a blast doing this project (especially the Lighting phase :) ). I surely intend to create other pieces in Unreal in the future.

Thanks !

Another point of view. It shows just how much I cheated in terms of Layout. Here we can see a road that I modeled and textured but it ended up not being visible in the final render due to camera angles.

Progress pic #1. At this point I had integrated everything I needed. Some tests with the lighting before I added the fog.

Progress pic #2. Lowered the amount post process on the lights.

Progress pic #3. This is where I added the fog and started to play with volumetric lights and shadows. This was my favorite part of the whole project ! I had a blast with the volumetric lights !

Here's a screenshot of the material for the pavement. I made a (now) simple node system that made it possible to paint puddles. I had no idea it was possible and I think it's pretty cool ! Though I wish the puddles were more visible in the final render

Strongly Inspired from this piece of art (artist unknown). I wanted to see if I was able to make something similar but different at the same time.
